I have a solo show at TCC Chicago, opening on April 14th and continuing until April 23rd.
Come by and check it out:
'Sublands presents work made over the past 3 years by artist Pete Hillstrom. The multimedia body of work centers on representations of Midwestern Americana with a suburban edge. They touch upon themes like consumption, conformity, aggression and banality while simultaneously serving as an homage to the conflicted nostalgia one feels for a culture to which one is born into. Darkly humorous, the works emphasize the duality that lies between the glossy veneer and the unsettling characteristics revealed underneath this American construct.'

|Sublands / pen & ink / 18 " x 66 " / 2016|
Sublands is a large scale drawing project, currently comprised of three separate 18" x 22" panels which join together to depict an isometric, omnipotent view of suburban midwest America, the center of focus of which is a strip mall bar.
I still consider the project ongoing, and may add more panels to it in the future. It is difficult to display such a wide image on the internet, the entire piece is most ideally viewed on my website,
